Alpinumisoflavone ameliorates choroidal neovascularisation and fibrosis in age-related macular degeneration in in vitro and in vivo models - Scientific Reports
Source : https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-022-18531-y
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a major cause of vision loss in the elderly population. Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) antibody therapy is applicable to neovascularisation of AMD; however, the...
Conclusion/Relevance: We report the anti-fibrotic and anti-neovascularisation effects of alpinumisoflavone (AIF), an isoflavonoid derived from unripe Maclura tricuspidata fruit, in in vitro and in vivo models.

Associations with baseline visual acuity in 12,414 eyes starting treatment for neovascular AMD - Eye
Source : https://www.nature.com/articles/s41433-022-02208-x
To determine baseline visual acuity before the start of treatment for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD), compare median and visual acuity states between treatment sites and investigate the association of...
Conclusions: Despite access to publicly funded treatment within the NHS, variation in visual acuity at the start of neovascular AMD treatment persists. Identifying the characteristics associated with poor baseline acuity, targeted health awareness campaigns, professional education, and pathway re-design may help to improve baseline acuity, the...
Optical coherence tomography angiography analysis of changes in the foveal avascular zone in eyes with diabetic macular edema treated with intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor - International Journal of Retina and Vitreous
Source : https://journalretinavitreous.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s40942-022-00406-z
Background To analyze the changes in foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area, perimeter, and circularity in the superficial (SCP) and deep (DCP) capillary plexuses in eyes with diabetic macular edema (DME)...
Conclusions: The FAZ area, perimeter, and circularity in the SCP and DCP as measured by OCTA remained stable during the first 6 months of intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy in eyes with DME. While there were no significant changes in the FAZ, treatment with intravitreal anti-VEGF still resulted in decreased CST and improved BCVA.
Artificial Intelligence Analysis of Biofluid Markers in Age-Related Macular Degeneration: A Systematic Review - PubMed
Source : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35968055/
This systematic review explores the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the analysis of biofluid markers in age-related macular degeneration (AMD). We detail the accuracy and validity of AI in...
Conclusion/Relevance: Use of AI models such as discriminant analysis could inform prognostic and diagnostic decision-making in a clinical setting. The identified pathways provide opportunity for future studies of AMD development and could be valuable in the advancement of novel treatments.
