Growth of nonexudative macular neovascularization in age-related macular degeneration: an indicator of biological lesion activity - Eye

Growth of nonexudative macular neovascularization in age-related macular degeneration: an indicator of biological lesion activity - Eye

To investigate the growth of nonexudative macular neovascularization (MNV) in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) using swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA). Patients with treatment-naïve nonexudative AMD in one eye and...

Conclusions: SS-OCTA allows to qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate nonexudative MNV in AMD patients. Growing MNV involved higher probabilities and a faster onset of exudation compared to stable MNV. Identifying the growth of MNV on OCTA might be helpful for establishing treatment strategies and follow-up planning.

Characterization of Hyperreflective Dots by Structural and Angiographic Optical Coherence Tomography in Patients with Diabetic Retinopathy and Healthy Subjects - PubMed

Characterization of Hyperreflective Dots by Structural and Angiographic Optical Coherence Tomography in Patients with Diabetic Retinopathy and Healthy Subjects - PubMed

Hyperreflective dots are a common but highly variable feature of optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans of the retina. We studied the spatial characteristics and perfusion of hyperreflective dots using both...

Conclusions: Thereby, this study defined a procedure to identify granular and elongated hyperreflective elements and differentiate between presumably perfused and occluded capillaries. The latter were only found in the diabetic patients. This classification can potentially be automated to non-invasively identify capillary non-perfusion in vivo.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a heterogeneous disease affecting the macula of individuals and is a cause of irreversible vision loss. Patients with neovascular AMD (nAMD) are candidates for the...

Conclusions: The model also ranked the impact of other variables, such as intra-retinal fluid, haemorrhage, pigment epithelium detachment, treatment drug, baseline VA of the untreated eye, and various lifestyle and demographic factors. The results identified variables that could be targeted for further investigation in support of personalised...

Selective Activation of the Wnt-Signaling Pathway as a Novel Therapy for the Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy and Other Retinal Vascular Diseases - PubMed

Selective Activation of the Wnt-Signaling Pathway as a Novel Therapy for the Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy and Other Retinal Vascular Diseases - PubMed

Source : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36432666/

Retinal ischemia, often associated with various disorders such as diabetic retinopathy (DR), retinal vein occlusion, glaucoma, optic neuropathies, stroke, and other retinopathies, is a major cause of visual impairment and...

Relevance: In this review, we summarize the potential of this pathway to address treatment gaps with current therapies, its promise as a novel and potentially disease modifying therapy for patients with DR and opportunities in other retinal vascular diseases.

Sustained release of heme-albumin as a potential novel therapeutic approach for age-related macular degeneration

Sustained release of heme-albumin as a potential novel therapeutic approach for age-related macular degeneration

Source : https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2022/BM/D2BM00905F

Globally, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the third most common visual impairment. Most often attributed to cellular fatigue with aging, over expression of reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes ROS accumulation...

Conclusions: Altogether, we demonstrate that heme–albumin loaded PDA NPs reduce oxidative stress in vitro and can provide sustained therapeutic delivery for AMD treatment.
